Welcome to the University Library
The University Library’s locations reflect the distributed structure of the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU): the Main Library, the Science and Technology Branch Library and many departmental libraries are located in Erlangen, while the Economic and Social Sciences Branch Library and the Educational Branch Library are located in Nuremberg. The subject librarians are open to your wishes and suggestions and look forward to working with you.
We are committed to supporting your teaching by adding key titles to the textbook collections at your suggestion and providing general and specialist information literacy training for your students. You can also set up term collections at your departmental library.
The University Library is involved in research at FAU in many different ways. It supports and advises on the use of digital resources, methods and tools. Together with the FAU Competence Unit for Research Data and Information, the Research Data Management Unit provides advice at every stage of the life cycle of your digital research data, from initial planning and the application process to the end of the project and long-term archiving. The Open Access Unit supports you in the publication, long-term archiving and verification of Open Access publications.
FAU was the first university in Germany to adopt an Open Science Policy, in which it commits itself to the central aim of Open Science: to make as many components of the academic teaching and research process as possible transparent, open and reusable. The Open Access Unit provides comprehensive advice. The University Library facilitates the financing of Open Access publications through Open Access funds, memberships and agreements.
The publishing service “FAU University Press” enables the cost-effective and rapid publication and distribution of selected publications by members of FAU. In addition to the mandatory digital publication via the institutional repository OPEN FAU, all works can also be published in print by FAU University Press. Research data can also be published as Open Data with the help of the University Library.
