DFG-Project Fund Books

The university library will contribute a flat rate amount to Open Access book publication fees, up to a maximum of 4.201, 68 € (net)/5.000 € (gross). All eligible invoices up to this amount will be paid by the library in full, with no author contribution. Funding is not limited to Book Processing Charges (BPCs) under a certain threshold. Provided you can cover the excess amount yourselves, you can request funding towards BPCs above 4.201, 68 € (net)/5.000 € (gross).For example, if your book fulfils the eligibility criteria and your BPC is 7.900 € (net)/9.401 € (gross), the library will pay your invoice in full, subtract the flat rate of 5.000 € and invoice you the remaining 4.401 €.

Books of special relevance such as textbooks or books containing outstanding research might be funded fully by the library (in collaboration with other university funding bodies) even if BPCs exceed 5000 €. Please contact us in any case regardless of the amount of your BPC.

The entire volume is published under an open Creative-Commons-licence, with CC-BY as default. I have not granted the publisher exclusive rights of use. (You should only deviate from the CC-BY licence choice if you are under legal obligation to do so.)
I am aware, that granting the publisher exclusive rights of use (Caution: take note of the warning label “All Rights Reserved” in the Directory of Open Access Books) can lead to funding being withdrawn (you might be required to pay back previously granted funding).

Only the editor can apply for funding for multi-author volumes. Funding is only available for entire volumes, not for individual contributions. Details of author participation

The University Library usually transfers the full invoice amount first so that the publisher receives his or her money quickly. If the publisher's invoice exceeds € 4201.68 net or € 5,000 gross, the University Library will usually then invoice the author for the difference on top.

If the university hospital finances this possible difference, then it usually needs a copy of the original publisher's invoice as well as the first page of the publication/publisher's PDF, a copy of the acknowledgements mentioned in the publication (if these are not evident on the first page) and the yellow allonge for cost reimbursement. If you have any questions, please contact the responsible third-party funding officer (Department of Research Funding).
