FAU can provide financial support through its Open Access Publication Fund, provided no alternative funding is available to you, the eligibility criteria are met, and publication funds at the library are sufficiently available. One of the funding criteria is that support will only be granted for invoices not exceeding 3,000 EUR gross (incl. VAT); invoices above this threshold will not be considered for funding, even if the author is prepared to pay the excess amount. Furthermore, a flat-rate principle applies. This means that eligible articles can be funded up to a maximum 1,400 EUR (gross); any amounts exceeding this will be billed to the author. Amounts below 1,400 EUR (gross) will be paid for by the library in full. Please check in advance whether your department/institute/clinic has funds available to cover any potential excess amount.

I confirm that the Article Processing Charge (APC) for my paper is below 3,000 EUR including VAT. Please note: If your publisher is based outside of Germany, the Reverse Charge Mechanism comes into effect. This means that the VAT rate on these invoices will be 0.00 USD (or other currency). However, when the invoice is paid by the library, 19% German VAT are applied on top of the invoice amount. Please check whether your APC remains below the 3,000 EUR threshold with 19% added to the net APC amount.

I am aware of the regulations around surplus costs above the maximum funding amount of 1,400 EUR (incl. 19% VAT) and am prepared to cover excess costs above 1,400 EUR and below the funding cap of 3,000 EUR if funding is granted by the library for my APC.

Details of author participation

The university library usually transfers the full invoice amount to the publisher first. Should the publisher's invoice exceed 1,400 EUR gross (incl. VAT), the university library will then invoice the author for the difference on top..

If the University Hospital finances this possible difference, then it usually needs a copy of the original publisher's invoice as well as the first page of the publication/publisher's PDF, a copy of the Acknowledgements mentioned in the publication (if these are not evident on the first page) and the yellow allonge for reimbursement. If you have any questions here, please contact the responsible third-party funding officer (Research Funding Department).
