National licences
The German Research Foundation’s national licences project
In 2004, the German Research Foundation (DFG) launched a programme which aims to acquire national licences for databases that are important for study and research. The DFG finances the national licences, while the libraries arrange access to the electronic resources. The aim is to provide researchers, students and the interested public with free access to databases, digital text collections and electronic journals, and to improve the provision of electronic specialist information at German universities, research institutions and academic libraries in the long term.
