Launch of a New Catalog

Even before the transition to the new library management system, FOLIO, on August 4, 2026, the previous library catalog was replaced by the discovery system “VuFind” on April 28, 2026. VuFind is an open-source software developed collaboratively by the international library community.

The new catalog features a modern design with a user-friendly interface and is optimized for use on smartphones and tablets. It also offers additional search options (including searches beyond FAU’s library collection).

The new URL is: search.ub.fau.de

Library Account and Login

  • For FAU members, catalog registration is done via single sign-on using the IdM credentials. This requires that the library function is enabled in IdM.
  • External library users need a new password before logging in to the new catalog for the first time. To do this, use the Set/Forgot Password feature, after which a URL will be sent to you. Passwords are now longer and therefore more secure. The login credentials are valid for both the catalog and the internet workstations.

Searching

When searching, you can use either the simple or the advanced search. You no longer need to select a pickup location when starting your search, as this selection is only required when placing an order. This means you can begin your search immediately.

The search results are displayed in two tabs: In “Books & More” and “Articles & More,” media from other academic libraries in Bavaria—including electronic media—are displayed alongside media from the University Library.

Training Sessions

The transition will be supported by training sessions in the form of half-hour online coffee lectures, where all the new features will be presented in a concise manner.
