Tools and Infrastructure

Various departments at FAU provide access to hardware and software that facilitate data management. Notable providers include the Regionale Rechenzentrum Erlangen (RRZE), the FAU CDI, and the University Library. The RRZE, for instance, offers services related to servers, data storage, and backup.

This page features a selection of FAU tools and platforms designed specifically for research data management.

FAU researchers can use the FAU instance of the online tool RDMO (Research Data Management Organiser) to create data management plans (DMPs). You will find templates for externally funded projects, such as ERC grants, Horizon projects, and the VW Foundation, as well as DMP templates based on the DFG checklist and those from individual NFDI consortia.

RADAR-Cloud is a repository operated by FIZ Karlsruhe. FAU members can access the platform through the FAU University Library. We would be happy to set up an account for you and assist you in using the platform.

The FAU Competence Center for Research Data and Information (FAU CDI) operates the FAU Data Cloud, a publication and archiving platform. The platform is ideal for large datasets and those with specific requirements. Many research groups and all professorships have access to free storage. More information about the platform can be found on the FAU CDI website.

The FAU CDI, FAU’s central research data facility, provides access to three electronic lab notebook systems:

  • NOMAD OASIS
  • eLabFTW
  • openBIS

FAU CDI offers technical support for systems and provides training sessions for interested research groups and laboratories.

WissKi is a virtual research environment designed for working with linked data. Although WissKi originated in the field of cultural heritage, it can also be used to describe other types of data or objects. FAU CDI provides the FAUWissKiCloud , a service that allows researchers to set up their own WissKi systems.

Zenodo is a large, freely accessible repository of the EU OpenAIRE project. FAU has its own Zenodo Community, where publications and research data from FAU members are collected. This content is brought together in one place by the FAU community, which increases the visibility of the university’s research.
