At our locations, you can use multifunction copiers, book scanners, and microform scanners. You can find out where the individual devices are located using the Learning Spaces Navigator.
Pay with Your FAUcard or Library Card
Scanning is free. You pay for printouts and copies with your FAUcard, Library Card, FAUcard for guests or Staff Copy Card. Machines for loading credit onto your FAUcard and for purchasing guest cards are available in the Main Library (first floor), the Economics and Social Sciences Branch Library (copy room) and the cafeterias operated by Student Services Erlangen-Nürnberg.
Please note: Some top-up machines accept only euro banknotes; card payments are accepted at some locations. You can find a list on the Studierendenwerk website: Top-up machine locations
You can send documents for printing to the multi-function copiers from all work stations with Internet access in the libraries. It is also possible to print documents from a USB stick (documents must be saved in PDF or JPG format).
You can make copies of books and journals yourself using the multi-function copiers.
You can save digital copies to your USB drive for free using the multifunction copiers, microform scanners, or book scanners.
- The multifunction copiers feature an automatic document feeder and can also send scans directly to your email address.
- Book scanners are particularly well-suited for quickly scanning books, magazines, and large documents such as maps while minimizing wear and tear on the originals. The devices can handle documents up to 48 x 36 cm in size.
- In the Main Library, the Technical and Science and Technology Branch Library (TNZB), and the Economic and Social Sciences Branch Library (WSZB), you can use special scanners to scan microfiches and microfilms (16 mm and 35 mm) at magnifications ranging from 7x to 54x and resolutions from 150 to 600 dpi.

Under §§ 53, 60a, and 60c Urheberrechtsgesetze (UrhG), the following is permitted with respect to protected works: – copyright expires only 70 years after the death of the longest-living author – individual copies may be made of only 12% of the work for private use or 75% of the work for one’s own scientific, non-commercial use. The copies may not be passed on to third parties.
