The University Library Through the Ages
Since 2023, the University Library has been presenting the virtual exhibition “Treasury of Knowledge – The University Library Erlangen-Nürnberg Through the Ages” (“Schatzkammer des Wissens – die Universitätsbibliothek Erlangen-Nürnberg im Wandel der Zeit”) in the German Digital Library. The exhibition showcases rare books from the margrave’s private libraries, the scholars’ and court libraries, and the former imperial university library in Altdorf, whose origins date back to 1526. Treasures such as an engraved 18th-century nautilus shell, 15th-century hand drawings by Nuremberg artists, and ancient coins are part of the special collections at the University Library.
