The core collection is assembled from the personal libraries of the founding margrave and the university\u2019s first chancellor, Daniel de Superville..<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/li>\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-rrze-elements-timeline-item \"><div class=\"tooltip\"><div class=\"tooltip-arrow\"><\/div><h3 class=\"timeline-label\">1805 &#8211; Expansion<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Around 13,000 books from the libraries of Ansbach and Schwaningen are being moved to Erlangen.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/li>\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-rrze-elements-timeline-item \"><div class=\"tooltip\"><div class=\"tooltip-arrow\"><\/div><h3 class=\"timeline-label\">1817 \u2013 Death of Margravine Sophie Caroline<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The university is taking over Erlangen Castle.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/li>\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-rrze-elements-timeline-item \"><div class=\"tooltip\"><div class=\"tooltip-arrow\"><\/div><h3 class=\"timeline-label\">1818 \u2013 University of Altdorf<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">King Maximilian Joseph orderes that the libraries of the University of Altdorf, dissolved in 1809, be transferred to Erlangen. This doubles the holdings of the University Library, bringing them to around 80,000 volumes. Initially, the Altdorf collection is moved to the Red House on Schlossplatz, which no longer exists today.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/li>\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-rrze-elements-timeline-item \"><div class=\"tooltip\"><div class=\"tooltip-arrow\"><\/div><h3 class=\"timeline-label\">1825 \u2013 Consolidation of all holdings<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The library&#8217;s entire holdings are consolidated at Erlangen Castle starting in 1825, and by the early 20th century, even that facility had reached its capacity limits.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/li>\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-rrze-elements-timeline-item \"><div class=\"tooltip\"><div class=\"tooltip-arrow\"><\/div><h3 class=\"timeline-label\">1913 \u2013 New Building<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the most modern architectural principles of the time, a new building is constructed on the lot between Universit\u00e4tsstra\u00dfe and Untere Karlstra\u00dfe in 1913, featuring a separate administrative wing and a storage block.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/li>\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-rrze-elements-timeline-item \"><div class=\"tooltip\"><div class=\"tooltip-arrow\"><\/div><h3 class=\"timeline-label\">1974 \u2013 New construction<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A new building is constructed directly across the street in 1974, and the public reading room moves there. The Old University Library now houses the administration, the media processing department, the university publications office, and the department of manuscripts, rare books and the print collection.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/li>\n<\/ol><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"annual-reports\">Annual Reports<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The annual report is published in German only.
