OPUS FAU

The institutional repository and online publication system OPUS FAU is the central electronic archiving and publication platform for all members of Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU). Qualified scientific works from research and teaching may be uploaded and archived here free of charge. The full texts of these works are permanently available worldwide and can be easily found and cited via library catalogs and search engines. For the online support and guidelines of OPUS FAU please visit http://opus4.kobv.de/opus4-fau/home/index/help.

Copyright

Copyright remains with the author. You only have to transfer a simple right of use. The initial publication on OPUS FAU (for example, a preprint) does not legally preclude further publication of the documents in journals or monographs as well as on other repositories. However, in cases of already published publications it is important to ascertain whether the publisher agrees to a second publication via OPUS FAU. An overview of the relevant publishing regulations can be found on the SHERPA/RoMEO platform: http://www.sherpa.ac.uk/romeo/index.php.

Publication contract for your information. (Please note that ONLY the German version of this document is legally binding and has to be signed. The English translation is provided to help you fill out the original German document.)

Which documents can be found in OPUS FAU?

Theoretically, OPUS FAU publishes a wide range of Open Access documents including research reports, book contributions, monographs, habilitations, preprints, reviews and articles in journals and newspapers. Currently, the largest part of OPUS FAU is made up of dissertations as well as secondary published articles in (for example subscription) journals which have subsequently become available with Open Access rights.
Please note the following recommendations and the OPUS FAU guidelines when using OPUS FAU: https://opus4.kobv.de/opus4-fau/home/index/help#policies.

For storage-intensive research data it is recommended to use FAU’s Zenodo community instead of OPUS FAU (due to the upload size limitation) or RADAR: https://ub.fau.de/schreiben-publizieren/daten-software-forschung/radar-datenplattform/. Other research data repositories can be found on the re3data platform: https://www.re3data.org/.

Teaching materials, videos, images, sound recordings and complete lectures can also be published as Open Access resources on OPUS FAU. However, please note that all published materials cannot be edited afterwards, are long-term archived permanently, and will receive a persistent identifier. Accordingly, it is recommended to publish free teaching and educational resources, so-called Open Educational Resources (OER) which are updated regularly, directly to StudOn as OER: https://www.studon.fau.de/studon/goto.php?target=cat_2384511.
