From Monday, January 25, Main Library, the Science and Technology Branch Library, the Economic and Social Sciences Branch Library and the Educational Science Branch Library will be open for the pick up of already requested books.
From Wednesday, January 27, central collection points for the departmental libraries with lending stock in Erlangen city area and the southern campus will be open for the pick up of already requested books.
It is possible to return books, but you do not need to hurry, even if the loan period has already expired. No reminder fees will be issued until February 15 2021.

Please return media from the departmental libraries in Bismarckstraße and Departmental Library Sinology (07SI) to the Departmental Library Educational Science, Philosophy and Psychology (04PA), media from the departmental libraries in Kochstraße and the Departmental Library of Mission Studies (01MW) to the Departmental Library Political Science (05PO).
Borrowed media from the Departmental Libraries Art History (06KU) and Geography (12GG) must be returned to the Main Library until further notice.
Books from the Departmental Libraries Physics (09GP), Biology (10GB), Process Engineering (14GV), Mathematics (18MI) and Sports Sciences (98SP) can only be returned to the Science and Technology Branch Library (TNZB).
You can continue to renew borrowed media online.
Log in to the catalogue with your library card number and password on the Account / Renewal tab. The account balance shows all borrowed media. You now have the possibility to extend the loan period of individual items or to renew the entire account. Please note that you can only renew media ten working days before the loan period ends.
If you can not extend the loan period, you do not need to hurry. No reminder fees will be issued until February 15 2021.
The University Library has suspended the chargeable return claims till February 15.

If you want to borrow a medium from the Departmental Libraries American Studies (07AM), German Studies (07DS), English Studies (07EN), Romance Studies (07RO), Oriental Studies (07OR) and Drama and Media Studies (07TH), you must select “04PA: Pick Up also for 07DS, 07EN/AM, 07RO, 07OR, 07TH” as the pick-up location. The pick-up date will be displayed after your order.
If you want to borrow a medium from the Departmental Libraries Sociology and Economic Sciences (05SO), Ancient History (06AG), Greek and Latin Philology (06KP), History of the Middle Ages and Modern Times (06MI) and Bayerische und Fränkische Landesgeschichte (06LG), you must select „05PO: Pick up also for 05SO, 06AG/KP, 06MI/LG, 01TH“ as the pick up location. The pick up date will be displayed after your order.
If you want to borrow a medium from the Departmental Library Art History (06KU) or the Library Geography (12GG), you must assign yourself to the pick up location “Main Library”.
If you want to borrow a medium from the from the Departmental Libraries Physics (09GP), Biology (10GB), Process Engineering (14GV), Mathematics (18MI) and the library of the Institute of Sports Science (98SP) , you must select „TNZB: Pick up also for 09GP, 10GB, 14GV, 18MI, 98SP“ as the pick up location.
Media from the Departmental Libraries Theology (01TH) and Archaeology (06AR) can be ordered in the catalogue, if you choose the Departmental Library Political Science Library (05PO) as pick-up location, Kochstr. 4.
Please choose the Departmental Library Educational Science, Philosophy and Psychology Library (04PA), Bismarckstr. 1 as pick-up location, if you want to order media from the Departmental Library Japanese Studies (07JA).
Since these locations have not been lending libraries so far, the order can only be made via a “stack request” in the online catalogue.
- Search for the title in the catalog and follow the instruction to open an additional catalog session in the individual display of the hit.
- Then log in with your UB-ID and password.
- Please fill in the signature field, enter the title and send the data.
- Automatically you will be assigned to one of the two pick-up locations. Please then confirm the pick-up location.
Please note that “stack requests” are only visible in your account after borrowing the item.
The library card number is an 11-digit number. You will find the library card number on your FAUcard or your library card starting with 028 … or 056 … (for library users who have registered with their OHMcard).
The password is preset to the day, month and year of your birthday, for example 17051982, which is an identification feature to protect your personal data from unauthorized access.
Please change this password in the catalogue via the function Account / Renewal – Personal Data – Change Password to a personal password. This password must have at least 8 and at most 12 characters. You can use letters, numbers, umlauts and special characters – with the exception of backslash \ and asterisk = star *. Please note that the password is case-sensitive.
We recommend that you change your password regularly.
At the four central locations, fees can be paid again at the payment stations. Please pay attention to the general distance rules. The keyboard is cleaned regularly.
Public photocopiers and book scanners cannot be used until further notice.
Books from the textbook collection (H80) and from the open access stacks (H29) can only be ordered via the catalogue. You cannot currently use the reference collection (H20), but university members can order extracts from books free of charge via our copy delivery service FAUdok.
For the time being, classroom training is not possible, the university library is currently compiling e-tutorials for the library’s youtube channel.
The Digital Humanities Lab offers an online series. You can also gain first experiences with the referenc management software Endnote and Citavi in an online training course.
