How to order a book from the libraries 01TH, 06AR, 07JA, 07OR?

Media from the Departmental Libraries Theology (01TH) and Archaeology (06AR) can be ordered in the catalogue, if you choose the Departmental Libraty Political Science Library (05PO) as pick-up location, Kochstr. 4.
Please choose the Departmental Library Educational Science, Philosophy and Psychology Library (04PA), Bismarckstr. 1 as pick-up location, if you want to order media from the Departmental Libraries Japanese Studies (07JA) and Oriental Studies (07OR).

Since these locations have not been lending libraries so far, the order can only be made via a “stack request” in the online catalogue.

  • Search for the title in the catalog and follow the instruction to open an additional catalog session in the individual display of the hit.
  • Then log in with your UB-ID and password.
  • Please fill in the signature field, enter the title and send the data.
  • Automatically you will be assigned to one of the two pick-up locations. Please then confirm the pick-up location.

Please note that “stack requests” are only visible in your account after borrowing the item.

I would like to get literature from a still closed library, how does that work?

Do you like to get books that cannot be ordered via the catalogue (using the central collection points in the city centre or using the “special order”)? If you are a member of the Friedrich-Alexander-University (FAU), please contact the librarians on site directly and discuss a contactless delivery. Mail addresses and telephone numbers of the contact persons can be found via the entry on the page Locations & opening hours.

If you would like to borrow books from the Departmental Libraries Physics (09GP), Biology (10GB), Process Engineering (14GV) or Mathematics (18MI), please contact ub-sued-ausleihe@fau.de. The librarians on site will then arrange with you the delivery of the books at the Science and Technology Branch Library (TNZB).

Can I order again an article via interlibrary loan?

You can again order articles from books and scientific journals via interlibrary loan from other libraries.
The following conditions applies to ordering copies:

  • permitted for non-commercial use only
  • only one article from a scientific journal may be delivered in its entirety.
  • parts from books, a maximum of 10 % of the work may be delivered.

The expense allowance for the copies amounts to 1.50 €.

The Departmental Library is still closed, how do I order a book via the catalogue?

If you want to borrow a medium from the Departmental Libraries American Studies (07AM), German Studies (07DS), English Studies (07EN), Romance Studies (07RO) and Drama and Media Studies (07TH), you must select “04PA: Pick Up also for 07DS, 07EN/AM, 07RO, 07TH” as the pick-up location. The pick-up date will be displayed after your order.

If you want to borrow a medium from the Departmental Libraries Sociology and Economic Sciences (05SO), Ancient History (06AG), Greek and Latin Philology (06KP), History of the Middle Ages and Modern Times (06MI) and Bayerische und Fränkische Landesgeschichte (06LG), you must select „05PO: Pick up also for 05SO, 06AG/KP, 06MI/LG“ as the pick up location. The pick up date will be displayed after your order.

If you want to borrow a medium from the Departmental Library Art History (06KU) or the Library Geography (12GG), you must assign yourself to the pick up location HB, Main Library.

Which locations are currently open for loan/return?

Is it possible to use the public photocopiers and book scanners?

Photocopiers and book scanners are available either in the libraries or in rooms open to the public. There, limited copying/printing is possible in compliance with the general rules of spacing. You can print your files (pdf only) from a USB stick.

In the Main Library, the three Branch Libraries and the Departmental Library Law, there will again be computer workstations for research, download and printing available from Monday, 10 August.

Can I attend trainings?

For the time being, classroom training is not yet possible, the university library is currently compiling e-tutorials.

The Digital Humanities Lab offers an online series in the summer semester. You can also gain first experiences with Endnote and Citavi in an online training course.

Can I ask for personal advice at the information desks?

Please contact the Online Information Service of the University Library for personal advice.

From Monday, August 10, the information desk in the Main Library will again provide individual information at the reading room counter from 9 am to 6 pm. The information desk in the Science and Technology Branch Library is staffed from 9 am to 4 pm.

Can I use the public computer workstations?

From Monday, August 10, seven computer workstations requiring reservation and 11 workstations for short-term use will be made available in the Main Library for research, download and printing. In the Science and Technology Branch Library, two workstations for research, download and printing will be made available for short-term use, in the Economic and Social Sciences Branch Library and the Educational Science Branch Library one workstation each.

In the Departmental Library Law (02JU) five computer workstations requiring reservation will be made available.
